Sigiriya the lion rock or the singhagiri is an ancient rock fortress located near the matale district near the town of dambulla in Central Province in Sri Lanka. Early ages it was a Kingdom of a king Known As kashyapa (the second son of king Dhathusena). Sigiriya rock plateau, formed from magma of an extinct volcano, is 200 meters higher than the surrounding jungles.
Since 3th century BC the rocky plateau of Sigiriya served as a monastery. In the second half of the 5th century king Kasyapa decided to construct a royal residence here.

There is a Lion Claws which is known as the main entrance. because of this lion claws sigiriya is known as " Singhagiri". the upper part of the lion was destroyed.

The western wall of sigiriya is covered by frescoes created during reign of king kashyapa. It was a secret today also how this images are drawn. because the wall is like a semi circle. the most popular frescoes are the images of " Vidyulatha and Megalatha" tourist aren't allowed to take photographs of these pictures. they are very very beeutiful.

There is a army of bees to protect this Region so when travelling in Sigiriya we must be silent otherwise bees will attack you.

There are parts of palace were ruined in early ages on the top of the rock. at that time there was a irrigation system also. also there are water flowers in water garden of sigiya there are very beautiful. at rainy season those flowers are reactivating.

The palace and fortress complex is recognized as one of the finest examples of ancient urban planning. Considering the uniqueness of Sigiriya UNESCO declared it a World Heritage site in 1982. Sigiriya is an unmatched combination of urban planning, water engineering, horticulture and arts.
